The Mission of the 64th Forward Support Battalion is to deploy with the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division to provide a singular, responsive, multifunctional source of combat service support.
The 64th Brigade Support Battalion was originally constituted in 1942 as the 64th Quartermaster Battalion. In August 1942, it was redesignated and activated as the 64th Quartermaster Laundry Battalion. It was then redesignated in 1943 into Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 64th Quartermaster Battalion, and 4 separate companies were assigned to it. In 1948, the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 64th Quartermaster Battalion was allotted to the Regular Army. It was inactivated in 1949 at Camp Lee, Virginia along with the separate companies.
From 1950 to 1953, the unit was activated for services in Europe during the Cold War. In 1963, the 64th Quartermaster Battalion was activated for services in Vietnam, where it was inactivated in 1970.
The unit was redesigned on 1 December 1975, as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 64th Support Battalion. Together with its companies, the unit was reactivated and assigned to the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized) and served in Germany until its inactivation in 1984. On 15 May 1987, the 64th Support Battalion (Forward) was reactivated at Fort Carson, Colorado.
In December 2004, as part of the transformation of the 4th Infantry Division to the US Army's modular force structure, the 64th Forward Support Battalion was inactivated and relieved from assignment to the 4th Infantry Division. It was rorganized and redesignated as the 64th Brigade Support Battalion and reactivated assigned to the reorganized and redesignated 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. As part of the modular transformation, assets previously held at division level, but habitually attached to a division's brigades during operations were made organic to the modular brigade combat teams. The 64th Brigade Support Battalion became the organic support battalion for the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.
As of 1 January 2006, the 64th Brigade Support Battalion, an element of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, was participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom as part of the larger Task Force Band of Brothers, which was led by 101st Airborne Division commanding general, Major General Thomas Turner. The 3rd Brigade Combat Team's mission included training the Iraqi Security Forces, assisting in the rebuilding of the Diyala Province infrastructure, as well as continuing to root out the anti-Iraqi forces that inhabit the region.

DELFI-OSCAR 64 (DELFI-C³)
On the 28th of April 2008 at 03:53 UTC the Delfi-C3 was succesfully launched with a PSLV launch vehicle. At 06:45 UTC the first signal was received by a radio amateur in California. At 11:55 UTC the satellite signal was acquired and decoded at the TU Delft groundstation, initial analysis showed the craft to be in excellent condition, all solar panels and antennas were deployed and the internal temperatures and voltages were within the ranges expected.
Mission
Test a new type of thin film solar cells in the space environment. In addition, the Dutch research institute TNO Science and Industry showed interest to join the initiative with an autonomous Sun Sensor using a wireless link for data transfer. A third new technology tested during the Delfi-C3 mission is an advanced high efficiency transceiver sized for application in pico- and nanosatellites.
